If you’re not yet convinced to buy a tablet - or to give one as a gift - try this review from Cameratico.

This site says even more than I did about the amazing advantages of tablets for speed, precision and fun. And how and why to choose the right one for you, your business or the lucky person on your Christmas list.

Here’s this very important link to the full article.

OK, so I didn’t know the Cameratico site before I posted my last article about Wacom graphics tablets as the perfect gift for any photographer. The editor/author and owner of the site is Fábio Pili. This gent is a photographer and graphic designer based in Brasília, Brazil’s federal capital and the seat of government. This city is in the Central-West region of the country, and is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Forgive the travelogue digressions from things photographic - we’re all interested in the expanding commercial markets of Brazil and it’s efforts toward hosting the next Summer Olympic Games, 2016 in Rio de Janerio. You’re going to go, aren’t you? Click here for more info. Much of the civic architecture is quite beautiful and sculptural.

Back on topic, here are some quotes from the Wacom tablet article that proved to me that Fábio knows his stuff and is articulate in his presentation with news you can use.

“WILL TOUCH DEVICES KILL PEN TABLETS?

I doubt it. Without a major exercise in user interface design, my feeling is that we won't be able to achieve the necessary drawing precision with bare fingers to replace tablets. The two technologies are complementary and we're already seeing the new Wacom tablets incorporate ouch gestures.”

“GO WACOM, IGNORE THE OTHERS

If you choose to buy a graphic tablet, invest in a Wacom model. There are some cheaper alternatives, but none of them has the same ubiquitous driver support, software integration, precision, and reliability as Wacom. No wonder they have over 85% of market share.”

“TABLET SIZE AND RESOLUTION VS. SCREEN SIZE

Tablet sizes should be relative to your screen size and resolution. The smaller the tablet surface, the less hand movement will be necessary to move the cursor on the screen. Having a tablet too small for your screen leads to a jumpy cursor and makes fine selections too difficult. A tablet too big for your screen feels slow, requiring too much hand movement, and may tire your arm muscles quicker.”

And, yes, Fábio tells you about the few cons of tablets too.

Cameratico is not in Portuguese, it’s in English. Readership is mostly North American and the site is solely in English, focusing in the USA public and secondarily on other English-speaking countries. The premise is a clean design with no advertising and the focus on the detailed content. Hope it can stay that way.

Fábio tells me, “Cameratico is my attempt to answer the "What camera should I buy?" question that I've heard so much from my friends and family. My response is evolving into a web app that uses an algorithm to provide humanized and personalized camera buying recommendations. I'm in the final phases of the project and the site will be live in January. I have high hopes for this website and I'm confident that it'll be one of the best camera comparison tools out there, going much further than a simple specs comparison.” What a whopper of a task! Can’t wait to see this app in action!
